Sweetness for your product
Agave

From plant to product
What is agave?
Agave is a natural sweetener with a story that starts in the fields of Mexico. Grown in arid soils where few crops thrive, agave is a resilient succulent that doesn’t rely on heavy irrigation or complex chemicals. It simply drinks in the desert heat, storing up rich natural carbohydrates in its heart (the piña).
It takes seven to ten years for a plant to mature. When the time is right, skilled jimadores harvest it by hand, cutting away the leaves to reveal the piña – the plant’s dense, sugary heart. From that one core come all three of our agave ingredients: syrup, powder and inulin, a prebiotic fibre.
More than an alternative to sugar.
Why use agave?
About 1.3 times sweeter than sugar, agave lets you achieve the same sweetness with less, cutting calories and helping products stay under sugar-tax thresholds. It’s liquid at room temperature, dissolves instantly even in cold applications and works across beverages, baking, dairy, confectionery and sauces without altering colour or mouthfeel.
Consumers also recognise and trust it as a sweetener: plant-based and vegan (unlike honey), minimally processed, and low-GI compared with sugar. It never crystallises, so it’s easy to handle in foodservice, and it cleanly replaces glucose syrup, corn syrup, or refined sugar on the label. For brands looking to reduce refined sugar without compromising on taste or texture, agave is a reliable, versatile choice.

Where it begins
The process of sourcing Agave.
Good agave doesn’t happen by accident. It takes the right climate, the right soil and growers who know exactly when a plant is ready. We work closely with trusted partners at every step, so the ingredient that reaches you is traceable, consistent and produced with care.
Grow
Agave starts in the field. Blue Weber agave is cultivated in Mexico, where the climate and volcanic soil provide the ideal conditions.
Supply
The finished agave ingredient is quality-checked and supplied to customers, ready for use in their products.
Harvest
Harvested when the time is right. After seven to ten years, mature plants are harvested by hand by skilled jimadores, who strip the leaves to reveal the piña.
Process
The piña is pressed to release its sap, then filtered and gently heated. Temperature and filtration level determine the grade, from raw and extra-light to amber and dark.

Find the right sweetness, or fibre, for your application
Agave syrup – Our core liquid sweetener, available from raw and extra-light through to amber and dark. Lighter grades are clean and neutral for beverages, dressings and baking; darker grades bring caramel notes to marinades, granola and brewing. Organic available.
Agave powder – The same clean sweetness in a free-flowing powder, for dry mixes, bars and anywhere a liquid won’t work.
Agave inulin – A soluble prebiotic fibre extracted from the piña. Clean-label, vegan, organic as standard and stable through baking and UHT, it supports “source of fibre” and “high in fibre” declarations and adds body and mouthfeel.
